Christmas Day part 2

After a quick lunch, we packed up and headed to Nana's.  We have not been able to be with Matt and Lauren and their girls for Christmas the past few years so we were excited to celebrate with them.

Cousin picture!!

Avery's beautiful Anna dress

More fairies for Isabel (noticing a theme for her Christmas yet?)

His own disc golf set for the back yard.  I think Josh is just as excited about this gift as Will is!

Isabel got a blanket and pillow that will match her new room

Then it was time to decorate cookies!!

It's Christmas!

Christmas Day was such a great day this year.  I'll be honest, my expectations were not high for Christmas this year.  We are not settled in a new home like I wanted to be.  Most of our Christmas decorations are still packed away in the attic in another state.  I gave up on the idea of getting Christmas cards out and a bunch of other things that shouldn't really matter but at first they did.  Then I realized that not worrying about all of the things I thought were important about Christmas actually left more time for me to focus on what was really important and simply enjoy the season.  The kids and I sang songs about baby Jesus coming to save the world (and a few about reindeer and snowmen too) :)  I enjoyed shopping for gifts.  Because I knew this Christmas would be completely different from the last few years, I didn't even try to compare.  I just enjoyed the new traditions and enjoyed the day and it was great!

We started Christmas Day pretty early with two crazy excited kids!  Isabel was very specific about wanting a fairy cottage this year but Will kept changing his mind.  I don't think there was anything he really really wanted so he was super excited with what Santa surprised him with.

Ready to see what Santa left for them (love that bed head!)

So excited about her Fairy Cottage

Dash the elf even left them a note and Christmas tree cakes

He drove his remote controlled car everywhere!!

After a yummy breakfast and quick showers for Josh and me, it was time to open more presents!!

Will bought Josh a "world's best dad" trophy for his office

Isabel picked out this beautiful necklace for me

New shoes!! (he now wears the same size as Isabel!!)

Isabel graduated from the Jesus Storybook Bible and got her first "big girl" bible.  I love how much she loves it!

more fairies for the fairy cottage

Isabel got a new scarf from Grams.  She loves it and has worn it many days in many ways.

This kid loves board games (mainly because it means he doesn't have to play by himself!)

Merry Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is always one of my favorite nights.  I absolutely Love Christmas Eve candlelight services at church.  Although we were at a new church this year, the candlelight service tradition continued and it was nice to see so many people that have become so special to us in a short period of time.  I love spending the night before Christmas focusing on what we are truly celebrating.  We have a Savior!  For the past 2 years, my favorite Christmas song has been We Have a Savior by Hillsong and my favorite line is "We are no longer lost 'cause He has come down for us!"  Definitely something to celebrate!

(This is the 3rd year Isabel has worn this dress on Christmas Eve! She loves it!)

These two make Christmas extra special

Isabel and Will love their Grams so much!

After church we had a yummy dinner and then opened one gift each.  At the beginning of December, Isabel and Will were able to shop for Josh and me and each other.  It has been so difficult for them to keep their gifts a secret so they were so excited to finally give their gifts.  First they gave each other their gifts.

Will gave Isabel a beautiful ring that she loves.

Isabel gave Will a crazy lovey that he loves. (Josh and I checked on Will that night and found him sleeping with the lovey attached around his neck! We quickly made a new rule that no one can sleep with something tied around their neck!!)

I didn't get a picture but one of my favorite moments of Christmas Eve was when Isabel first gave Josh his gift from her to open.  After waiting almost a month, she just couldn't wait a minute longer.  As he was opening it she yelled, "It's an ornament!!!"  As we laughed she gave away even more yelling "It says Dad on it!!"  It was hilarious and of course Josh loved it.
Will picked out a perfect Alabama football ornament for me that I love too!

Before bed we had to throw out magic reindeer food in the front yard,

and then set out cookies for Santa.
(side note: usually we leave the traditional Knierim Christmas cookies but since we hadn't made them yet we had to settle for plain chocolate chip. Of course Josh had to kid with the kids and told them Santa probably wouldn't bring as good of gifts since we weren't leaving the good cookies! ha ha!)

Then it was off to bed to dream of Christmas morning surprises.  For two kids that were sure they wouldn't be able to fall asleep, they were both asleep in minutes! I guess Christmas Eve was pretty exhausting for everyone!

Christmas choir performance

Will is the ultimate extrovert and loves performing.  He has been super excited about his choir performance.  Singing on the stage in "big church" in both services is a pretty huge deal! He did a great job singing and we were super proud of him!

I love that grin!

Isabel did not want to join the choir this year and wasn't about to get up on stage but she is always there to cheer on her brother!

Go Upwards!

Somehow in the midst of the Christmas time craziness, we have fit in some basketball playing and cheering in the past few weeks.  Both kids are old enough for Upwards this year and are loving it.  This is Will's first experience with organized basketball and Isabel is cheering again.  Although the games mean early Saturday mornings, the experience has been great so far!

Zoo Light Safari

I've been a little sad that we can't go to Opryland Hotel this year but thankfully we have found some other fun Christmas events.  Last weekend we went to zoo lights safari at our zoo with some new friends.  It was a super cold night and crazy crowded but we still had fun!

Mia, Isabel, Yates and Will loved the "snow"

They even got to see Santa!!

There were lots of fun activities for the kids but we were only willing to wait in line for some. We decided the train wasn't worth what looked like a 2 mile line but we did ride the carousel and went on a hay ride.

This year we are having fun focusing on making new traditions and I hope this is one that will continue!
