Quick Trip

When we left Hendersonville almost 2 months ago, I never imagined that we would still be trying to sell our house and still living with my mom at this point.  Because of that (and the fact that we were trying to get to Birmingham as quickly as possible so we would have time to get the kids registered for school) we basically packed up what we thought we would need for a month or so and then left for Birmingham.  At the end of July in the South, that means there was no thought to bringing jackets, pants or any type of fall clothes.  As we kept getting closer to Fall weather and no offers on the house, Josh and I realized that we were going to have to make a quick trip to Hendersonville to pack some more clothes.

We considered going without the kids but they really wanted to go and see their friends too.  So Friday afternoon we checked the kids out of school a little early and drove to Hendersonville.  We were only there about 24 hours but it was a really good trip.  Of course we didn't get a chance to see everyone we wanted to but we did get a chance to see some friends and pack up some things that we needed.

Friday night we got to surprise Isabel and Will's best friends.  Their parents didn't tell them we were coming and Isabel and Will thought it was the greatest thing ever.  We showed up at their house Friday night and Isabel's friend, Lillie, answered the door.  It was so fun to see their sweet reactions.

such excitement!!

sweet girls that have missed each other so much!

They quickly started playing as if no time had passed since they had seen each other.

We enjoyed such a great night with great friends catching up, watching the kids play, eating and making s'mores!

That night the kids had a little hard time just realizing that they would have to leave their friends and rooms all over again the next day.  At first Josh and I worried we had made a mistake by bringing them but like always, our kids are amazing and handled it all so well.

Saturday we slept in a little (Isabel enjoyed sleeping late without her brother in her room waking her up early) and then let the kids play while Josh did yard work and I packed up fall and winter clothes.  We had lunch with friends, ran a few errands, got a few things from the storage unit and then headed back to Birmingham.  It was a quick trip but fun.  I'm praying that we make another trip soon because our house has sold and we need to pack up the house and move it to our new house in Birmingham!!

Fiesta!!

The kids are really loving their new school! They were all ready for "spirit day" last week!

I love getting to be involved in my kids schools. Since there were not many opportunities to volunteer the first month of school, I'm taking advantage of every chance I get now. I have had lunch with both kids recently, worked the book fair twice last week and then Friday I got to help with the Mexican fiesta in Will's classroom.

They learned all about Mexico all week and then ended the week with a piñata and eating Mexican food! They all had a great time!

Will was super proud of his awesome sombrero!

Mad dash to get prizes when the piñata broke!

Like his mama, Will is not a huge fan of Mexican food so his snack basically consisted of a plain tortilla and tostito chips.

Will lost his first tooth

Will had his first visit from the tooth fairy this week.  He has had a loose tooth for a while but was not sure he wanted daddy to pull it out.  He tried himself a few times but just couldn't do it.  Eventually it was so loose that he let Josh try just once and the tooth was out.  He was so crazy excited and Isabel was right there to explain to him all about the tooth fairy!

He was super excited to wake up the next morning to find money and a note from the tooth fairy!!  My little man is growing up but I'm not sure I'm ready for that sweet little mouth to be full of big kid teeth just yet!

life in Birmingham

It is so hard to believe that we have already lived in Birmingham for over a month!  Some days it seems like we have been here a week and other days it seems like we have lived here for 6 months.  We are definitely getting adjusted to life in Birmingham.  Josh loves his job and we all love our new church.  The kids are loving their new school and I'm so proud of how well both of them have handled all of the transitions.  Really the only difficult part of the move is the fact that we still have not sold our house in Tennessee.  I'm trying really hard to be patient and remind myself regularly how much worse it could be.  My mom has so graciously given over most of her house to our crazy family and we are enjoying being close to her and the rest of our family here in Birmingham.

This month has mostly been filled with school but we have managed to have some fun too.

I love watching them run to the car every afternoon with big smiles on their faces!

Isabel doesn't mind homework too much so far.  Her teacher is amazing and she loves Isabel as much as Isabel loves her!

I got to eat lunch with my little man the other day.  Unlike his sister, he loves buying lunch at school (as long as it is pizza or some type of chicken!) :)

Both kids LOVE their new church as well and I'm so thankful. They have lots of new friends there and enjoy all the activities.  They are both learning so much and memorizing so much scripture.  I'm so thankful that God gave Josh a job at a church that is perfect for our entire family.

Even though school has started, it definitely still feels like summer outside! The kids love playing with the hose at my mom's house

my sweet girl!

Will still loves playing disc golf with daddy

Isabel and Will are sharing a room right now and they actually really love it.  However, there is not a lot of room for all of their toys.  As you can tell, Isabel's barbie/polly pocket world has pretty much taken over their room

Will is such a great reader these days.  We are so proud of him!

One Saturday Josh had to go to Samford for a church fair so the kids and I went to and enjoyed walking around Samford's campus and eating in the food court.  I love that my kids love a place that is so special to Josh and me.

Of course we have been to a couple of high school football games.  We had fun but are more than ready for the cool, fall, "football weather"
Beautiful sunset at a football game one night

Isabel has started cheerleading at her school (which she LOVES) which means Will and I get to play at a park next to the school once a week during her practice.
