I have recently started watching 2 kids a few days a week. It is working out great and I am thankful for the opportunity. There is a little girl who is 4 that was in Will's class at school last year. They were best buds and have missed each other this year so they are both excited to get to be together again. Her little brother is 1.5 and we are all enjoying the chance to play with a little one. Because of holidays or "snow days" Isabel has been home a few days to play with them too. She LOVES it!! She gets a girl to play girly things with but also gets to be a little mommy too. Will gets a little jealous on those days but is usually good about playing with them or hanging out with the boys.
These little girls can play barbies all.day.long!
sweet boy loves all of Will's hats
However, he does NOT like Will's superhero masks!!
Last week was Isabel's 100th day of school but the plan was to really celebrate on Friday. It is hard to believe that my baby girl has been in kindergarten so long. She has definitely come a long way since those first few days that started with tears and anxiety every morning. The girl loves school! This was obvious on Friday morning when we found out school was cancelled due to "ice." Isabel just started crying at the news. Luckily they were still able to celebrate their 100 days today. The kids were encouraged to dress "like they were 100" which Isabel thought was hilarious.
You can't really tell in this picture but we put baby powder in her hair to make it gray and put it up in a bun. She decided she wanted to be a "fun old lady" so she wore a crazy print dress with her glasses and pearls. I think she makes a beautiful 100 year old!
She is very proud of the necklace they made at school. They started the necklace early last week and worked on it some each day. Apparently Isabel also helped multiple kids in her class with their necklaces once she was done. It always concerns me when she first tells me about helping other kids because she can be a little bossy a great leader and wants to be the teacher at times. However she assured me that her teacher told her to help these kids that were having trouble so I am proud of my helpful girl!
The kids made crowns that said "100 days smarter" and I have no doubt that this is true. I am constantly amazed at her abilities to read and write. She now spends her rest/quiet time on the weekends writing notes to Josh or me, or her school teacher or Sunday school teacher. Her other favorite pastime is texting. She can read and write her own texts and feels so grown up. I love how she spells words and often refuse to tell her the correct way even though she knows that red squiggly line means she spelled something wrong. I know that will be important soon but right now I love her phonetic spelling.
Because it was only 52 degrees instead of 32 degrees yesterday, we went outside to play for a little while. Isabel was in a very silly mood when I tried to take some pictures. I love this crazy girl...
I just found these pictures from a few days after Christmas and they were too funny not to post....
Will is all about superheros these days so he got a lot of superhero gear for Christmas. Sometimes the superhero stuff can be combined to make different kind of superheros. This takes father-son-wrestling to a whole new level.....
Josh = Batman mask + Hulk hands
Will = spiderman hat + AL dream light thing that became some kind of weapon
We went to a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese last weekend. Amazingly, this was our first trip to Chuck E Cheese. When our kids were little, they were terrified of the huge mascot-type things so there was no way we were taking them to there. Isabel and Will loved everything about it now though! They loved all the games and thought the singing "animals" were hilarious. After I explained the tickets to Isabel she immediately decided that she only wanted to play games that gave tickets so she could get something great!
Although I said was going to be better about it, I am still leaving my good camera at home and just taking quick pictures with my phone all of the time. This means too many things get skipped on the blog and that makes me sad. Even if they are not that big of a deal, I want this blog to filled with memories of the big events and just daily fun. So...here is a bunch of random pictures from my phone from the past few months.
Most days I have to wake up Will to go get in the car pool line. This day I walked in and this is what I saw. It seriously took me a minute to even find him!
Hendersonville Christmas Parade was a lot of fun!
There were 2 youth Christmas parties (high school and middle school). My kids 100% think they are part of the youth group and love the teenagers. I love them too and love that they are so great with my kids!
My little man with the flu...High fevers are NOT fun! Unfortunately his sister was in the same spot with the same fever 2 days later! :(
I had so much fun helping with Isabel's Christmas winter party at school. She had so many fun days the last week of school before Christmas and was determined not to miss any by getting sick. She succeeded. She started running a fever Friday night after her party day.
Candle light Christmas Eve Service
Will asked when he could light the candle every 2 minutes for the entire service!
We enjoyed some flurries the day after Christmas
Playing at Hoppity Hop the day before school started back
I took the kids to get yogurt one night and Isabel read this entire sign. I only had to help with the words "weigh" and "ounce." It still shocks me that she is really reading!
I love peeking in through the window and watching Isabel dance. She loves tap!
What a great way to begin 2013! No, we didn't do anything special for New Year's Eve. I am talking about Alabama winning the National Championship game AGAIN!!
I love football. More than that, I love ALABAMA football! I have been around football my entire life (I was born about a week before football season began) and I have been an Alabama fan for as long as I can remember!! My dad and brother explained the game to me when I was young and if football was being played, it was on our TV. In high school I had a good friend who was also a big Alabama fan and I was able to go to many games with her and her dad. We watched them win and lose plenty of times but it was always exciting! I went to Samford for undergrad but football was not a big deal there at that time so I continued to cheer for Alabama without feeling disloyal. Then I received my masters degree from the University of Alabama so I can officially consider myself an Alabama graduate! I now live in Tennessee but that only makes me prouder to be an Alabama fan! ha ha!
I can get a little emotional over a football game...and not always in a good way. I am not one to sit quietly and watch a game. I blame my father for that trait. However, I can say that I have come a long way recently in remembering that it is only a game and not something that should completely ruin my day!
As it was in my house growing up, football is a big part of my family. I "converted" Josh and his family when we first started dating (they were really just Titans fans and didn't care much for college football so it wasn't too difficult) and I now love watching the games with Josh. My children can sing the Alabama fight song, yell Roll Tide and are quick to tell people in Tennessee that we "don't like orange!" We have raised them right! :)
After winning the National Championship last year, I was not expecting greatness from the team this year. Of course I was wrong and so happy about that! There were some nerve wracking games that I was sure would give me a heart attack but somehow Alabama once again was playing to be #1. We all wore our Alabama gear that day (well Isabel refused to wear her Alabama t'shirt but she did wear a red and white dress with her houndstooth elephant necklace to school). The game started at 7:30 so Josh and I recorded the game, put the kids to bed and then watched the game in peace. I loved every second of the game and I'll admit there may have been tears in my eyes at the end as I watched those boys celebrate! I know that this "dynasty" will not continue forever so for now I am simply happily enjoying these wins!!
